SEH Furnace

Immersion-type continuous aluminium melting and holding furnace (SEH)
Immersion-Type Continuous Aluminium Melting & Holding Furnace

The SEH furnace is an immersion-type continuous aluminium melting and holding furnace developed for aluminium die casters and foundries. Its holding chamber uses an immersion heating system in a design that pursues both space and energy savings.
The SEH furnace offers the following outstanding features.

Features of the SEH Furnace

Superior Molten Metal Quality

Because the melt is heated from within, segregation, oxide formation, and gas absorption are minimal, yielding higher-quality molten metal.

No Oxide Buildup in the Holding Chamber

The holding chamber’s ambient temperature is nearly identical to the melt temperature, shutting out a major cause of oxide buildup.

Kind to the Environment

Combustion exhaust volume is smaller than that of reverberatory furnaces, reducing CO2 emissions.

High Melt Temperature Accuracy

Within ±2°C of the set temperature.

Long-Life Heater Tubes

Advanced fine ceramic tubes deliver a service life of more than two years.

Compact Footprint, Low Maintenance Cost

Requires 30% less floor space than combustion-type furnaces. Holding chambers have a proven record of more than eight years without repair.

Operator-Friendly

The holding chamber’s outer surface stays at just 20°C above ambient, easing the heat and burden of dross skimming.

Multi-Fuel Capability

Gas: city gas, natural gas, propane, butane, etc.
Oil: heavy fuel oil (Bunker A), diesel, kerosene, etc.

The Structure and Functions Behind the SEH Furnace

Flux Treatment in the Melting Chamber

Freshly melted, semi-molten aluminium is flux-treated and skimmed of dross in the melting chamber. Compared with flux work in a reverberatory-type holding chamber, heat exposure is greatly reduced, easing the burden on operators.

Connecting Port Between the Melting and Holding Chambers

A weir formed by a ceramic plate prevents flux residue from flowing into the holding chamber.

Holding Chamber Inspection Hatch

Maintaining the holding chamber is as simple as raising the hatch and removing the oxide film from the melt surface. The refractory lining is a high-alumina material with low wettability to molten aluminium, installed as a single monolithic casting.

With its small heat source and thick insulation, the holding chamber’s outer wall surface stays at just 20°C above ambient temperature.

Heater tubes of the SEH furnace

Heater Tubes

For general die-casting applications, the Hicera ceramic tubes are guaranteed for two years, with a proven service life of up to four years.

Heat exchange takes place along the tubes’ full depth, keeping the holding chamber compact.

Heater Heat Generation

The furnace is designed so that the heating elements remain immersed in the melt at all times during continuous melting.
Because the chamber atmosphere is warmed only by radiant heat from the melt, it stays at nearly the same temperature as the melt itself — shutting out a major cause of oxide growth.

The unit is housed beneath the melting chamber, so there is no need to climb onto the furnace for maintenance — inspection and servicing can be carried out safely.
